Green Knights Military Motorcycle Club™ Ch 28(GKMMC)
What is the purpose of Green Knights MMC, Chapter 28?
The purpose of this club is to promote: esprit-de-corps, safe riding, mentor-ship of inexperienced riders, and positive community impact for all Military & DoD riders stationed at Luke AFB in Glendale, AZ or living in the surrounding areas. We’re an international club with over 130 chapters.
What’s the meaning of the back patch / colors?
The horse represents the horsepower of our rides. The knight represents the old code, how our members are expected to act. The lightning bolt represents the striking power of the Air Forces (because that is where our club started). The stars represent the original 13 colonies. The knight’s shield represents the defense of our country.
What are the requirements to become a Knight (full patched member)?
First of all, come out to a few of our socials and get to know us and we’ll get to know you and your family. If you want to take the next step, you’ll complete a membership application and turn it in to an officer of the club. To be eligible for full membership you must have a motorcycle endorsement, be either active duty military, reserve or guard member, military retiree, military dependent or civilian employee of the federal government (DoD, AF, etc.), any prior service with service connected disability of 30% or more. Spouses may apply for membership together. Just as in the times of yore we also want our children to be a part of the club as junior members and they are called Pages. Pages were the children of Knights who one day would become Knights themselves. We strongly encourage family events and want to give our future a chance to be part of the club, learn our values and possibly start making a positive influence in the world. Anyone that shares our values and are like minded can be an Associate or Squire member. Please let us know if you have any questions about the requirements.
Is there a PPE (personal protective equipment) requirement?
As members of the military we share many common interests with one being the enjoyment of motorcycling. Our mission: to establish and maintain a spirit of comradeship and esprit de corps that will enhance the prestige of all motorcycle riders, encourage on-going rider education and skills development, and reduce the potential of motorcycle mishaps. As Green Knights we set an example for all personnel according to the standards, traditions, and customs of the Armed Forces. To operate and conduct ourselves in a manner that provides equal opportunity and treatment for all motorcyclists. We mentor those who need it and provide a safe enjoyable atmosphere. We will fight for biker rights and represent the motorcycle community on the installation.
If you are a patched member, you are required to wear a DOT approved helmet, gloves, long pants, and boots (above the ankle), in addition to all other state required clothing. Active duty members will comply with any other applicable rules outlined in AFI 91-207 (or service specific instruction).
Do I have to ride a certain type of motorcycle to join?
No, we welcome all makes, models, and sizes of motorcycles / trikes as well as all experience levels of riders from those just thinking about buying their first motorcycle to those who have been riding for years.
What’s the history of the Green Knights MMC?
The Green Knights MMC is a 501(c)(3) organization that was formed back in late 1999 and formally recognized in 2000 at McGuire AFB, New Jersey. It was the idea of Adam Buehler with the assistance of base MSF instructor Jeff Richards to organize base motorcyclists for activities and to bring awareness to DoD riders and to individuals who do not ride.
